Jhulan Yatra – the Swing Festival – Starts Thursday 3rd August – Morning and Evening at 7:30 am/pm – Ends on Balaram’s Appearance Day – (Monday 7th August)
We will be celebrating this festival with the children during the week and on Thursday morning at the temple.
The sakhis (girlfriends) of Radha in Vrindavan have prepared a beautiful swing thick with varieties of flowers on a strong kadamba tree in the forest. Their desire is to invite Radha and Krishna to sit on the swing and to swing the Divine Couple so They may enjoy a nice breeze in the still, humid air of Shravana.
This loving pastime of the Divine Couple and Their wonderful associates that form the sublime character of Vraja, are commemorated every year in the month of Shravana in Radha Krishna temples all over the world.
Jhulan Yatra is celebrated starting from the eleventh day (ekadashi) of the bright fortnight (shukla paksha) of Shravana Masa up to the full moon day (purnima). That makes it a total of five days of the festival of Jhulan Yatra.
Reminder for Janmastami Participation- Start thinking now!
The children will be presenting some pastimes and our class will be singing a song about Krishna and Balaram and the cows. The girls will be dressing as gopis and the boys as cowherd boys. Please start thinking and preparing your outfits early – we all know what last minute rushes are like! Here is an idea of the outfits should look like…
Girls – Gopi skirts, jewellery, bangles etc.
Boys – crowns/turbins dhotis wraps garlands etc.
We are the first performance at around 7:30 pm so we are asking that children be ready by 7:00pm.
Our Learning in Pics
Health Topic -Healthy Eating!
Our Topic for the term is Living a Healthy Life which covers all the aspects of health and well-being. It was great to spy lots of healthy snacks and lunches…
Every morning we have a greeting circle where the children greet each other. This is a very special time and it definitely fosters great relationships!
Wednesday Whole School Free Choice Afternoon!
Every Wednesday afternoon the children choose activities from the different classrooms. This is great for the children because they get to choose their activities and to mix with children from the different classes. This fosters great inter-class relationships as well as skill modelling and sharing.
In Krishna Priya Mataji’s classroom the children made traditional aboriginal dot paintings
You will have received about 8 pages in this beginning of term homework.
Please keep the sheets that you will need to refer to weekly in a safe place eg. spelling/word reading, math activity, alphabet handwriting, number and position sheet etc. These are for you to keep referring to when the activity says math/spelling practice etc.
The poem, Butterfly, and the lunch box activity are specifically for this week’s homework.
Also you all have a homework practice exercise book. (If yours is full – ask for a new one) . This is for you to use to practice all the activities eg. handwriting, math, spelling etc.
The children will also be bringing home a book to read each day. If your child is not yet able to read independently please read to them, asking questions, getting them to point out letters, easy words etc.
Please return the plastic bag with the reader each day so your child can get a new reader. If they don’t bring back the bag I can’t give a new reader as the books can get damaged without some protection. Don’t worry if they forget to bring back their reader from the previous day and don’t get a new reader ….it is great practice to read books again and again!
A Visitor to the School!
You don’t see many of these on the farm!
